We have struggled with this a lot. I can tell you that ALL of my kids (even the new teen) still believe in Santa, so you can tell which way we went. I don't know. Hubby and I were talking about it last night...we feel like it is the spirit of giving. That being said, we do talk alot about what Christmas really means. I grew up with both and I have a pretty good grasp on what Christmas means, so I wasn't scarred. But sometimes I worry too much about the focus on the gifts. As you can tell, I still debate it all though we have gone too far, we can't turn back. The one thing I don't try to do is dwell too much on the "be good to get things" idea. We joke about it but that is about it.

I fight this, its very hard for me, I was a child who hated beign lied to and deceived so when I fiugered out Santa I was beyond mad. I wouldl ove to not have Maya believe so that she knows I will always tell her the truth, but then again maybe she likes beieving in Santa. What I dread and what I have to go around is here she is a child very aware of the kids around the world not living due to no food etc, and how we talk about kidsin Guatemala no toys etc, so when do you say "Santa doesn't bring things to poor people????" I really fight this.
