Its December already?!

Wow, 23 days until Christmas. This is Carson's first Christmas at home and I want it to be "perfect". I have been struggling with not going over board with Christmas presents. Carson has almost every "material" thing a 15 month old little boy could dream about. So, what do I get him? What will he enjoy the most? What will he remember about his first Christmas?
Is anyone else struggling with this area?

Greta, not sure if Carson has a wagon but this is what we got for Aiden on his first Christmas and he really enjoyed it. The first Christmas is a tough one because they are so little that they don't even realize what is going on and you hate to spend money on stuff just so they "have" something.

You could try to make some new Christmas traditions. Family time is what is important anyway. Good luck on your shopping too.

I am right there with you on trying not to go overboard. I have Maya 3 big things and that is it. The wagon is a good idea, if he doesn't already have one.

Last year was Ean's first Christmas. We too struggled with what to get him. At the time he was only 7 1/2 months old. I cannot remember exactly what we got for Ean but I do remember him only being interested in the paper and boxes. I think keeping it simply is the key to a great unforgetable Christmas.

I suggest something that you think will come in handy for you when you are busy. Something that will keep him occupied.

He will remember what you remember through the stories.

I would also start a tradition of letting him pick out a toy for another boy - to learn the gift of giving. Do you think they can start to learn that at 1 year?? I don't know. Good luck!

Hi Greta;

We revisit this every year...we are trying to simplify. This year we are doing stocking presents (from us) and one gift.

I still feel like I have too much stuff to do on the material end of things.

I recently heard someone say that they only did 3 gifts...like the wisemen gave Jesus. Great idea...maybe next year!

We struggle with that every year, more so this year as we pay for our second adoption and our upcoming pickup trip. I don't know the answer. I do know that the gifts are fun. But what my kids remember most...the traditions, like the book tradition, making Christmas cookies together, decorating the tree, certain decorations, singing the Advent calendar songs...that is what they remember the most. :)
