Carson had his 18 month check up yesterday at the pediatrician.
Our appointment was scheduled for 9:10a.m. Carson and I were called back to the examination room at 9:30am ( we had the first appointment of the morning). The LPN had me undress Carson to get his weight...a whopping 19.11 lbs.; his height 30.3 inches, temperature 98.6 and his head circumference, which I can not remember however, its growing with the rest of him. The lovely LPN exits the examination room and states in passing, the Doctor will be with you shortly. Its now 9:45am, I check my watch its 9:55am, 10:10am, 10:20am--Finally the Doctor enters the room at 10:30am. He apologies for being late and starts asking me questions about Carson's eating habits, playing and vocabulary..then he begins to examine him. He looks into his left ear and says "his ear is infected", and then he checks the right ear, and says "this ear is grossly infected". I wanted to disappear. I had no idea his ears were infected. Great, another dose of antibiotics. The Doctor began to listen to Carson's heart. He listened and listened and listened... He had a puzzled look and said- "I hear a heart murmur". I will have the referral nurse make a referral to Children's Hospital for you. Please do not lose any sleep, it might be nothing, however, I want to have it checked. So, needless to say, Carson is on Amoxicillin for 10 days and I am losing sleep.

Okay - I am one of those people who laughs at inappropriate times. I just laughed through this post. "This ear is infected." Wow. Then, "This ear is grossly infected." And then in my head you **POOF** disappeared! Seriously, though, I'm sure the heart murmur is nothing. I would say try not to lose sleep - but that is stupid. Of course you're going to be up tonight saying an extra prayer for your angel. As well as an extra prayer for your crazy friend who laughs at inappropriate times.
I had to present to a room FULL of teachers last week. The subject was content literacy. The passage was from a Social Studies text. The phrase was "cow chips" - and, yes, the author was referring to poo. In front of 60 teachers I about died laughing - and I was the one reading the durn thing - as well as the only one laughing...
Come on now - cow poo? At least crack a smile, People!

Keeping you and Carson in my prayers. My oldest daughter also had a heart murmur when she was little and I guess God was listening to me constantly praying about this because it healed itself. Keep your head up. Hugs.
Don't feel bad about those ears. Unless they are really fussy, you would never know at that age. And really, most things I have read say that a lot of ear infections clear up on their own. However, it is hard. Our son is on his first antibiotic...I would never have taken him in except that I thought he had pinkeye. Nope, upper respiratory infection. Will be praying about the heart murmur and for sleep for you!

UGH! We just finished our first round of the pink stuff for double ear infections. Hope you get some positive news on your follow-up for the heart murmur!
OH, GretaJo I am sorry. WOW!! I can't believe he wasn't screaming. Maybe that is the reason for the sleep problems a while back........
Hope the heart murmur is a simple thing. I know at this age they often are.
Now, your Dr. needs to learn something about time and toddlers. You would think he would get it. UGH. Reese would have been a mess by that time.
Oh my, I can't believe the dr. made you wait so long! That's crazy! I'm sorry he's sick, I don't know much about heart murmers but I hope you are able to get peace of mind soon.
Not exactly how a mommy would hope to have a "well baby exam" go! I can totally relate, however, as I had almost the exact same experience with my daughter several months ago. Her heart murmur did turn out to be something more, but in general most are not serious. Hope your follow-up goes well.
First of all, I think you need a new doctor. Maybe one with a bedside manner. lol
I hope the heart murmur is minor and clears up on it's own. Try to not worry too much until you hear from the hospital.
Andrew is on his third round of anti-biotics for ear infections and he never complains. Don't feel bad about that part. How could you possibly know unless you've got your own otoscope. lol
And, Becca...cow poo is VERY funny, but then I teach K-2. Poo is always funny in our room. :)
